Founded in February 2025, the Steps Together Collective (STC) wishes to reimagine society as a space that is free of ableist attitudes and policies. Wielding a multi-pronged approach, the Collective seeks to enhance access to employment opportunities for disabled individuals from underserved communities, in addition to inducing sensitivity about disability in the workplace. Towards this end, we aim to develop original resources such as comprehensive databases of disability-friendly employers, educational storybooks, and informative pamphlets about inclusive practices at the workplace, as specified in the 2016 Rights for Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act.Â
In order to effectuate material change, the Collective aims to drive infrastructural transformation in collaboration with non-governmental organizations. This process will involve a fundraising campaign, and our aim is to ensure that the infrastructural upgrades undertaken at the NGO premises align with the specifications stipulated in the 2016 RPwD Act. Underlying these initiatives is our goal to help disabled individuals lead a life of dignity and independence. Lastly, we also wish to drive novel innovation in order to address the customized needs of individuals with motor impairments.
